Every event necessitates a great invitation. Every birth, every move, every engagement requires an announcement. Every gift calls for a thank you note. It can often become overwhelming. But whatever the occasion, big or small, city folks believe in making a statement. Invitations especially, are becoming progressively innovative, with personalised needs transforming to top quality solutions.
Chandigarh Times checks out some of the inventive designs that have definitely made an impact on city minds.

With everyone wanting something off the beaten track, different materials and production techniques are being used to create a range of innovative invites. "The invitation card is your first impression of what an event is going to be like. An elaborate invite suggests splendour, while a whacky one means fun. If it succeeds in generating interest or curiosity, you begin to envision the function itself, mentally preparing yourself to go," tells Amit Malhotra of Malhotra Paper Mart in Sector 22.

His opinion is echoed by people sending business as well as personal invitations.

"Regular cards have become passé. But if you send an invite that screams of effort and a personal touch, the invitees make sure they respond," tells homemaker Geeta Vaidya, showing us baby-shaped invites in powder blue with a small baby pin on the diaper, that she sent out on her son''s first birthday. Another special occasion that people celebrate are wedding anniversaries.

"On our 25th anniversary, we wanted to make the whole day memorable, and that started with the invitations we sent out to all our friends," Harsimran Singh recalls. Tastefully made bags of handmade paper, filled with custom- made chocolates, accompanied the small square of invite attached alongside. A gesture duly appreciated by their friends.

Even corporate invitations seem to be breaking out of the ''staid'' mode by becoming colourful and even whacky in their ideas. "The idea is to stay in the clients'' minds. And what better way to do that than with eye-catching invites?" says a businessman. Print houses cater to the demand with several ideas of their own. "Whatever the occasion, we truly believe in giving someone the best designs that our studio can make. From simplistic designs to the most elaborate ones, there is just no compromising on the invite these days," affirms Ashima Juneja of Juneja Design Studio in Sector 17.

By invitation, means a lot more style now.
